What to do if it rains on the day of your photo session
As an outdoor photographer, I depend a lot on the weather. Normally here in Los Angeles weather tends to be pretty good most of the time. During the winter months, there are occasional rainy days so I like to have a couple of options ready if I happen to have sessions scheduled on a day that rains. I like to send these options to my clients who book winter sessions as well. Keep reading to see some of the options. I like to share with my clients and I implement during the rainy day and rainy season.
Try rescheduling your session
If you have the option to reschedule your session to a different day do so especially if you have a specific idea of how you want your photos to look. A lot of the time clients think it's too late to reschedule the session and that just canceling as a whole never hurts to ask. I normally always reschedule my clients if they ask me.
Bring umbrellas
if you are unable to reschedule for whatever reason I know that sometimes here in Los Angeles we have rainy weeks so if you need your photos ASAP and are not able to reschedule at a sooner day due to a rain. I suggest bringing umbrellas to your photo session. You can have fun with it and buy cute clear umbrellas. Those are always really cute and stylish and can match every wardrobe or find umbrellas that you feel can match your family's wardrobe.
Find a dry location
Another option is to find a different location than you had planned. There are lots of outdoor locations that are covered with a roof or are partially dry. I suggest asking your photographer if they have a Plan B location in case of the rain ahead of time. This way you plan accordingly to a second location in case it rains.
Make the most of it
Have fun, you can't control the weather there's nothing you can do about it. Put on your rain boots, grab a jacket, grab an umbrella, and just have fun. What makes a great photo isn't the perfect weather but the connection that is displayed and translated on camera. So if you're having a great time you will have great and beautiful photos done. Rain photos are super unique so you'll definitely have photos to remember.
Whether it's rain or shine there is always a way to make your photo shoot a great experience and if you're planning on booking a photo session during the rainy season, I suggest considering these options then always having a plan b. It is good to be prepared just in case. Also, express these concerns to your photographer and see how they handle the rainy season and how their rescheduling option works. Make sure to always have fun regardless and don't let a little rain spoil your day.
