WHAT TO WEAR FOR YOUR FALL FAMILY SESSION?
WHAT TO WEAR FOR YOUR FALL FAMILY SESSION?
I put together a short list of tips along with a stlying guide that will help you coordinate your families fall outfits for your upcoming fall photo session.
The first thing to consider is (where)
Ask yourself where is my session taking place? Are we going to be set against a golden grassy field, green trees or eye-catching fall color? Knowing the where of your location will help determine the COLORS you choose. You want your family to pop enough but also tie in with the colors of your surroundings. The most important thing here is not to blend too much.
Whats your family style?
How do you want these photos to feel? What your wear will play a HUGE factor on the vibe your photos give. I can pick a beautiful location at perfect sunset but if you wear sweatpants or a bright neon shirt, the “vibe” will be off, and you won’t have cohesive family images. So, take a moment and think, “what is the vibe you want to try for?” Also remember to stay within your comfort zone you don’t want added stress that could possibly translate on camera. Just start by thinking. Do I want a classic look? Or maybe a little boho? Perhaps something bold? Gather your ideas and go from there.
Earthy tones for the win
Simple as it can be when it comes to fall wardrobe you can’t go wrong with earthy tones. If you’re not sure what your family’s vibe is or what style you want to go with, I highly recommend choosing earthy tones! Why? They complement every skin tone and look so beautiful at golden hour. They also happen to be fall colors and match with almost every location. They are also super easy to find! Most styles of clothing carry earthy tones so no need to shop like crazy.
What you should definitely do
Now for the things you should make sure to do for your sessions. Starting with wearing walking shoes! This is a big one for women. Think comfort, you don’t want to wear high heels. Having to walk in them is not fun itself but it is even worse when they sink in the grass or dirt. Stick with flats or wear boots they are always great for the fall. Another thing you should definitely do is layer your clothing. Add a cardigan or a scarf, maybe even a jean jacket. This adds more texture and ties in a look specially for the fall season.
Now for the things you shouldn’t do
Here’s what not to do. Wear clothing with logos of any kind. This is a big one for the kiddos. Try to stay away from super loose clothing. Also, no baseball hats or any type of hat that is too big. It can cast a shadow on your face and you don’t want that.
