Style guide for spring photo session

With spring time being around the corner I want to share with you a few styling tips to prepare you for your spring photos.

Tip #1 Decide a color scheme

Whether you’re doing family photos or couples even for individual portraits it’s super important to start by designing what color do you want to go with. For spring it’s easy to stick with neutrals and pastels. Do you want to take in consideration the location where your photos will be held at. Depending if there will be props, a backdrop, or the color of your surroundings you want to pick a color that doesn’t blend in your location. White is a go to color for many when they think about spring. I say white is too distracting I would rather you go with beige or a cream color anything other than white.

Tip #2 stick to the classics you know

When it comes to just spring pictures I think the more simple the outfit the better. Don’t try any new prints or patterns that you think will look good but you’re unfamiliar with and might end up hating at the end. Stick to what you know and looks good on you whether that be dresses instead of skirts or shorts instead of jeans. Whatever it might be stick to the classics you know work best for you. This might be hard because coming spring time stores are filled with so many trending spring outfits that you will love to try out But at the end of the day a classic spring look will always be timeless.  Plus it’ll look great or your house & will probably match better with your decor.

Tip #3 when in doubt layer!

Here in California specially in the central valley we experience unpredictable weather. This means some spring days are a bit chillier than others. Layering up can make it super easy in case you need to keep yourself a little warmer during session. For woman this could mean adding a cardigan or a blazer to your outfit. For men a knit sweater over will look great any shirt. What great of outlayers is that if it starts warming up later during the day or during your session you can always remove the layer easily without it ruining the outfit. You don’t wanna be freezing an uncomfortable during your session you will end up with not so great photos.

Tip #4 don’t overdo it

This is super important and goes back to tip number two keep it classic. When putting together an outfit try not to over accessorize. I know we want to show off our beautiful watches and necklaces earrings and hats but maybe choose one accessory instead of all five. By over accessorizing you can easily distract the attention that’s supposed to be on you. Also don’t overdo it by matching every family member in the same color. This will make you stick out like a thumb instead of flowing all together as one.

Tip #5 no graphic T-shirts/ brand logos

As a graphic T-shirt lover myself I understand that we might believe putting a graphic T-shirt on is the perfect outfit. But I’m here to tell you it’s not so ditch them and leave them at home. This also means please do not layer with graphic or brand logo T-shirts. You will always see through the top layer! Please just avoid and do not wear for any reason possible!

Tip#6 choose comfort always!

I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to simply choose a comfortable outfit. I know as women we always want to look our best but sometimes we just have to leave the heels behind we don’t need them to look beautiful. Comfortable flats look great even some wedges if you really feel the need to be a little extra. Stick to what you know you’ll be comfortable in and you have an amazing session and great photos as a result.

I really hope these easy tips will help you put together your perfect spring outfits for your photo sessions. Remember to have fun and try not to stress so much about what you’re gonna wear. Try keeping it simple and you’ll be fine.
