So you’re in the in the market for some professional photos. by now you must have encountered a dozen or so photographers. All are amazing but how do you know what photographer is right for you? I believe it’s super important to find the right photographer that matches your personality and meets all of your needs. Keep reading on to learn about how important it is to know your photographer style and what exactly this means when booking your next photo shoot.
Do your research
As with any service or product you buy I always recommend you do a little bit of research before hand. This way there’s no surprises and you will be more satisfied and happy with the service or product. This means searching the Photographer’s previous customer reviews checking out there portfolio their social media accounts everything. By doing your research you will hopefully discover your potential photographers branding style. Here you will learn if their personality matches yours. if they do the work that you were looking for and if they need all of your needs.
Learn about how they work
I believe it’s super important to learn about how your photographer works. Do you know how long their turnaround time is? Are you able to communicate with them easily. Do they pose or do they not pose? Believe it or or not. Not every photographer poses their subjects. As a lifestyle photographer i’ve experienced clients complaining during our sessions together about me not posing them or telling them where to look or not telling them to smile and look at the camera. often I’m confused at situations like this because I assume that the client has booked me because they have learned about my style and have done their research. They should discover that I do not follow traditional posing techniques.
Look at Photographers website
Photographers like myself have a website where they use as a platform to not only display the per folio but also describe and share about their style and brand. Sometimes by just checking out the website you can learn A lot from him photographer. For example the first thing you see when you click on my homepage of my website is that it says. I am a lifestyle photographer for the central valley area and I work with laid-back families. You’ll see that the subheading will describe the type of work I do (Maternity, family, portraits). You will also learn that I am paying outdoor photographer and do not work in the studio. By learning these simple facts about me it will help you decide if I am the correct photographer for you.
Knowing your needs and wants
As a client I believe it’s super important for you to know what you are looking for. Perhaps making a list of the needs and wants for your photo session can help you decide what photographer works best for your needs. But not knowing what you’re looking for I can lead you to booking a session with the photographer that does not match who you are and what you’re looking for. And this will not be beneficial for you or for the photographer as the session most likely won’t come out how you wanted to and the photographer will also not feel comfortable. I believe that a Client and a photographer need to match for the session flow to be smooth fun and stress free. I talk from experience when I say that if a client and a photographer do not match the session will be very uncomfortable and stressful for both parties.

As a photographer I always want my clients to be happy comfortable enjoy their sessions. So I get super bummed when a client comes to me and has no idea how I work and is disappointed when I do something like not post them. They end up not being happy with the results because they were looking for something that I did not offer. The reality is as a photographer I don’t change my artistic view towards photography depending on a client. I believe my photography should be and feel a certain way and it’s going to be consistent for every photo session I have. So you cannot expect me to change my style of photography just because it doesn’t suit your needs. In situations like this I will just simply say that it will not work out because as a creative açai express myself and this is the service I provide and if you book me I’m assuming that you know and are aware of the services I provided how I work. So what that means that I hope for the sake of both clients and photographers that we are all informed before booking a session.
