What to wear to your Christmas Photo session?

If you’re not quite sure on what to wear to your upcoming Christmas photo session, I’m here to help. I’ve gathered a few tips and ideas that I believe to be super helpful when deciding on wardrobe. I’ll be gearing towards families but these tips can be applied to any session type.

 Dont stress

I understand that you probably want the best outcome for these photos.  you also probably have this vision on how your photos should look. a lot of the times that vision can be unrealistic. To be completely honest you 100000% don’t need a new wardrobe for the photos so if that’s the way you thought this was going its totally not. Plus I can only imagine shopping for a family can be a huge expense skip that worry because you don’t need anything new. Hopefully in this guild you can learn some tips that are actually helpful in planning some amazing outfits.

Pick comfort over everything

I’ve been in situations where clients wear the most beautiful outfits that unfortunately are super uncomfortable and they end up not enjoying the session and not having the best experience.Which sucks because photos are attached to memories and you difintely don’t want to look back at a uncomfortable memory. I can guarantee you that there is a beautiful and comfortable outfit out there you can wear. If you choose to skip this step do so at your own risk but for the kiddos for sure consider implementing this. You want them to be as happy as possible during the session. They bring all the cuteness needed anyway.

Don’t wear matching outfits

Let me explain, you can coordinate your outfits to match just don’t wear the exact same thing. I know most people do this to make the family a unit but there’s other way to do so. For example, instead of wearing the same color tops you can wear different shades of the color. This tip is totally optional but highly recommended. Plus think about how much money you can save by not buying everyone matching outfits.

Consider your location

If you’re doing an outdoor session consider wearing coats or jackets. Layering up is an easy way to add style and keep yourself warm during the cold seasons. Boots are also very stylish and perfect for outdoor sessions. If you’re doing an indoor shoot you can always do a photo session in your pjs. I find these super cute and unique.

Avoid colors that will blend in with your surroundings.

Will your family blend in with the trees if you all wear the same shade of green? The great outdoors can serve as a stunning backdrop, especially for a woodsy Christmas photoshoot idea. Even if green is your favorite color, you don’t want that to be the only thing people see. Make sure to differentiate yourself from the environment to bring out faces in the photo.

Ideas for the best color combinations on Christmas clothes for family pictures:

  • Green, red, and gold

  • Emerald and burgundy

  • Dusty blue and blush

  • Red, white, and black

  • Forest green, rust, and tan

  • Gold and cream

  • White, cream, and grey

  • Black and white

  • Grey, navy, and burgundy
