3 Tips for successful fall photos

3 Tips for successful fall photos

I put together three tips that I find super useful for anyone planning their fall photos. This can be for anything from family sessions to couples or maternity.

 Plan wardrobe in advance

I like to suggest you plan your wardrobe a month in advance. The reason being is in case you need to return any items or are waiting for something to arrive. Having wardrobe taking care of will take of a lot of the stress that can come from planning a photo session. For the fall session I recommend you stick to warm earthy tones. Try not to completely match outfits or colors with your family or partner. Think of the color wheel its ok to find similar shades just try avoiding wearing the exact same thing. Also try on the outfit beforehand. This is to avoid it not fitting how you like and you not feeling confident in what you’re wearing. Believe it or not the little things like that can add on and make the experience stressful. Your future self will thank you for all the planning in advance.

Plan out your entire day

This may seem a little excessive but trust me, having an idea of how you want your day to turn out and planning accordingly will make the experience more enjoyable. You will also avoid the risk of running late to your session. I find this especially useful for families. This means perhaps sleeping 30 mins earlier the night before and having an early start the day of your session. Getting up a little earlier will give you enough time to do what you must and not rush getting ready and out the door. I recommend you plan to eat before your session instead of after. You don’t not want to be hungry during your shoot. I know often when in a time crunch, we can easily skip eating till after the session, and I can tell you from experience it’s not worth it just plan ahead.

Select the perfect location/ time

I like to help my clients select the location for their session depending on there needs. I like to recommend looking at a few locations before setting for one. The reason being is often clients discover new locations they had no idea about and end up changing their mind. With this being said trust your photographer. If they believe the location you suggested won’t work out, trust that it’s for the best reason. Another super important tip to keep in mind is when booking your session. Selecting the best time of day is super important. The best time to book your shoot is golden hour. You’ll have the best lighting with beautiful skies turning pink and orange I love this look year-round but especially for the fall.

I hope these tips helped you get an idea of how to best prepare yourself for your fall photo shoot. Remember your investing in making these memories that will last a lifetime take the time to make them extra special. Also please don’t forget to have fun. Happy fall!
