Tips you need to know before booking your maternity session

Congratulations are in order you’re expecting and you’re quite unsure of how to go about planning/booking your Maternity photos. I’m an experienced photographer of five years and have gathered a few tips and tricks that have helped my clients have a enjoyable experience. Also being a mother myself I know how it feels like so I could definitely relate to you mamas. I do wanna throw in a disclaimer saying that Everyone has a different experience so some of these tips might help and some may not but I definitely think they’re worth trying.

Tip number one book the session even if you don’t want to.

So I know from friends and family members who are not comfortable with being in front of the camera and usually don’t book photo sessions. that they may feel a little intimidated or just not interested in scheduling a maternity session. They say that they are honestly content with simple iPhone mirror pictures that they take of themselves to capture the moment of their pregnancy. As a photographer of course I’m advising you to go to a professional and let them take care of you. Well simply because you can’t compare an iPhone mirror selfie to an actual professional photograph of your beautiful belly.

I always tell people you don’t want to be in a position where you will regret not having the photos because honestly may be right now you don’t feel 100% confident in your skin. I mean I know how it can be our bodies change we don’t always feel 100% confident. Sometimes we don’t even have energy to even decide on what to wear on a daily basis so I totally get the hesitation. But I’m here to remind you that you’re supposed to feel the way you do. I mean you’re making a human inside your body. Soon you’ll hold your little baby in your arms and maybe even miss the belly. As a grown adult I still wish I had photos of my mother when she was expecting me it’s just beautiful memory that you want captured in the best way possible. If your on the fence about booking a session definitely look into your photographer make sure that there they are someone you can feel comfortable with and trust because when you find the right photographer for you they won’t make you feel uncomfortable and it won’t be such an intimidating experience.

Tip number two learn about the photographer

I know I touched bases on this a little bit in the previous tab but I want to take a little deeper on how important it is to learn more about the photographer you choose for your maternity session. Being in the industry come across so many talented photographers and they all work differently and uniquely to themselves. Some photographers have different styles in which they photograph. For example maybe an outdoor photographer won’t do what a studio photographer does or vice versa. But I do suggest that the most important thing is to learn about how they work. The thing is that there are a lot of talent or photographers out there but maybe not all of them are a fit for you and your family. Maybe you’re into someone who is more laid-back and is not constantly adding the pressure of looking perfect posing in the exact way that they want you to. But you wouldn’t know that by just viewing their portfolio and checking out their packages. I suggest you take the time to cruise their website read there about me page if they have one if there are links to their social media platforms visit those as well in most cases photographers have behind-the-scenes videos of what they do so It will definitely give you a better insight of what to expect as well if you book with them. As a photographer and a client I can say I’ve definitely been in situations where I either wish the client had a better understanding of the type of photographer I was or as a client wished I would’ve took more time to research the type of photographer I was hiring. As a photographer I’ve run into experiences where the client doesn’t seem pleased by the way I run session I am a lifestyle photographer and I don’t pose strictly instead I’m more laid-back and I focus on showcasing my clients connection personality and I’ll send them selves. Some clients are not used to this I want something completely different than when I can provide and it doesn’t always result in a best experience for either of us. So definitely check out that Google reviews and look at other website before booking.

Tip 3 book at the correct belly time

If you’re wondering when is the most ideal time for you to fuck your maturity sessions I say I suggest that you book anywhere from 26 weeks to 34 weeks and here’s why if you book anything sooner than 26 weeks maybe you’re not showing as much on your belly might not be as pronounced as you would like to see definitely wait till passing 26 weeks if you were to wait to book past the 34 weeks at this point of privacy feeling a little bit more tired and in baby planning mode and find yourself probably super busy preparing for that thing you want to worry about is preparing for a maternity session. No if you’re expecting twins do recommend you book in the 26 weeks if you are showing more good time frame would be anything from 22 weeks to 34 weeks maybe even 32 weeks just to play it safe. If your first time off he sure of when he’ll show or if you’re not showing us soon as he like it’s totally fine to wait past the 26 weeks to book booking at 32 weeks seems to be a common timeframe for first time mom. I also definitely recommend you want to photographer in a month in advance just to ensure that there’s availability in the calendar.

Tip plan on what your going to wear!

Trying to Find what to wear can be stressful for any photography session but I think expecting moms feel a little pressured to look extra good for the maternity session. I suggest that just planning a couple weeks in advance will definitely take away the stress I also suggest that you reach out to your photographer they’ll probably guide you in the right direction in terms of order some photographers even have Client! closets or you can go ahead and rent Wardrobe from them directly if the photographer does not provide this option by working with them they can help you get an idea of what you should wear one thing I do you wanna point out is that you want to consider the location you’re going to be in you wanna also consider the season and the time a day. I think that often we overwrite these important factors when deciding on what to wear. A super important tip that I do want you to remember please is always where comfortable shows I know that me as an outdoor photographer I don’t have expecting moms do a lot of walking but they will have to walk maybe about five minutes or less to there location and I always highly recommend you are comfortable shoes specially because pregnancy is uncomfortable as is you don’t want to add onto it. If you’re able to hire someone to do your hair make up definitely do so that’s just the cherry on top to making the day less stressful and more relaxing also feels like you’re getting pampered and you feel like it’s your special day or some thing. Are you doing your own hair make up definitely make enough time in your day or you’re not completely rushed to make it to your session on time and rather give yourself enough time to enjoy the process of getting ready. Common wardrobe suggestions I get clients is longflowing dresses if you’re comfortable if you wanna do a more casual field to the session classic jeans and buckled from the belly with a simple T-shirt that could be tied up above the belly and such a classic beautiful look as well.

I really hope that these tips helped you and maybe even eased your mind when it comes down planning your maternity session I know this is a very special time for you as an expectant mom and all the little details might seem like they’re a lot but I promise that just by simply planning ahead can make this super beautiful experience 10 times better and if you were on the fence about booking a photo session I definitely recommend it I cannot emphasize that enough it is a mile stone in your and the babies life that you will want to remember forever and if you’re going to do it might as well do it in the best way possible.
